About the session

The proliferation of digital tools has brought more opportunities than ever to document and open up the research process. At the same time, research cultures have been shifting from the 'publish or perish' paradigm towards openness and transparency. In particular, the ability to reproduce results to confirm their reliability is evolving to become a more established part of the research process: there is agreement that reproducible research practices can enable scientific development and enhance trust in science. We will share stories from academics, librarians, infrastructure providers, and publishers to discuss practices and barriers around research reproducibility. Our session will address a variety of research objects relevant across disciplines –for example, methodologies, research data, and code, plus their role in enhancing trust in the published record. David Mellor is the Director of Policy at the Center for Open Science and works to ensure that ideal practices in scientific research, such as data sharing, protocol transparency, and replication; are recognized and rewarded for scientists working to get published, funded, and hired. David's background training is in ecology and citizen science, and received his PhD from Rutgers University.
Research Data Management and Reproducibility Librarian, University of Oregon Libraries

As a Reproducibility Librarian, Gabriele Hayden consults with and organizes trainings for students, faculty, and researchers at the University of Oregon on research data management, sourcing and sharing data, and best practices in computational reproducibility. She holds a PhD in English Literature from Yale University.

She is the former Publisher of American Psychiatric Publishing, a division of the American Psychiatric Association, and the world’s leading publisher of books, journals, periodicals, and online resources on psychiatry, mental health, and behavioral science. Previously Rebecca served as Senior Director and Publisher at The Endocrine Society and Senior Director of Publishing at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Lars Vilhuber holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Université de Montréal, Canada, and is currently on the faculty of the Cornell University Economics Department. He has interests in labor economics, statistical disclosure limitation and data dissemination, and reproducibility and replicability in the social sciences. He is the Data Editor of the American Economic Association, and Managing Editor of the Journal of Privacy and Confidentiality.
